Alabama can be a state that is looked over when vacations are concerned. No one comes out and says lets go to Alabama, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t. Alabama is a beautiful state with a lot to offer. Birmingham is the largest city and has wonderful park that is a perfect place to visit while on vacation. The name of the park is Vulcan Park and Museum and was named after the Roman god of the Forge. It named that because the city of Birmingham sits upon large coal, iron, and limestone. These are all elements used to make steal, which is how the city of Birmingham grew so quickly. The center piece of the park and museum is a giant statue on a pillar. The statue is 56 feet tall and made complete out of cast iron. He weighs a total of 101,200 pounds and is the largest cast iron statue in the world, and is the largest statue metal statue to be made in the United States. He stands upon a stone pillar that is 124 feet tall making it a total height of 180 feet. The Vulcan Park and Museum is a wonderful place that his lots of history and is a rich piece of history in Birmingham. The museum is just as wonderful as the statue. The museum holds a lot of fun facts like how he was shipped across the US to be displayed at state fairs, and even left forgotten along the railroad tracks for 18 months. Vulcan Park and Museum is a great place to spend a day just soaking up the beauty and history.

If there is one thing that Birmingham Alabama is known for it has to be the good old soul food. There isn’t a better place to get great food then at Saw’s Soul Kitchen. Saw’s isn’t the type of place that required a button down shirt of dress but instead and very relaxed and down to earth. The area of town which it’s in is a litter ran down, but there is nothing to worry about. The food is the real hit at Saw’s Soul Kitchen they consistently put out what is considered by the local to be the best BBQ you can find south of Memphis. They are open for lunch and dinner but you should be prepared to wait for a few minutes if you come during rush hours because it does get busy and it’s a small place. Its well worth the wait and you won’t be disappointed. The atmosphere inside is really a treat the walls have lots of old vintage signs and license plates. The one thing that really caught my eyes was the menu. The wall behind the counter is the menu, the entire wall is a chalk board and the menu is hand written. I loved this because it allows them to add items in season and remove them when they are out of season. Saw’s Soul Kitchen is one of my favorite places to eat in Birmingham and a great place to take friends and family.
