Columbia River Gorge Oregon is a beautiful place it is known as the last true American frontier. There are thousands of miles of open forests with little to now civilization that can be explored by the seasoned traveler. Portland Oregon is a beautiful city that captures the state’s natural beauty. If you are a traveler who likes to stay close to cavitation but want to experience the full beauty of Oregon than Portland. One very popular place to get some of this outdoor experience is on the Tony Knowles Costa Trail. Where to go in Portland

National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother Some of the most beautiful places on earth are places of worship for one religion or another. In Portland there is a nationally renowned catholic shrine that is open to the public. The Grotto a National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother sits on a 62 acre plot that is the most beautiful botanical garden I’ve had a chance to visit. The Grotto is a bi level park the bottom is centered around a cave with a life size marble replica of Michelangelo’s Pieta. The shrine is a wonderful place to come and pray. Its quite the only sound is of running water and nature. The shrine is surrounded by gardens so beautiful they take your breath away. The top level of the park is accessed by either an elevator or a walking trail. It is quite the hike up to the top level through the trail but it is really a great experience. For those of us out there that don’t found hiking to be a great adventure the elevation is a great option but there is a small free so it can stay up and running. The top level houses holds the manicured gardens and numerous other religious artworks. The views are breath taking as well. From the upper level there are panoramic views of the surrounding valley. There are few other places around Portland with such great a view.
