With it's green folliage, conifer pines, crisp cool breezy falls and ubiquitous deer crossings, Red Deer is marked with a rich history of Scottish origin. Red Deer became a trading post for goods and supplies in 1882 which was established on the Red Deer River. The area is brushed with historic sites including the Fort Normandeau which was contructed during the Riel Rebellion in 1885. Tracks began to be laid by the Calgory & Edmonton Railway in 1891 which would kick-off an exponential gowth in population during 18th century. Later, with a population estimated over 400 people, Red Deer would become an important hub for trade and resources such as coal, ammenities, passengers, freight, baggage sheds, roundhouse, water tank, coaling to list a few. |

In an earlier article it was mentioned that Red Deer was home to Aboriginees and Scots. Population records indicate that Red deer had a population of over 343 people back in 1901. Today, it is estimated from the 2006 consensus, that this diverse county is host to over 82,000 residents of diverse cultures. Interestingly, about 4% of the residents claim they are aboriginal among 90% who speak English. In recent years, there has been an influx of immigrants ranging from Philippinos to Indians. Close to 72% of the residents of Red Deer identify themselves as Christians. |
