Museums in Paris France:
Musee de Cinema
is located across the Seine River which is near the Eiffel Tower.
This museum was built in 1937 by three architects named Carlu,
Boileau, and Azema. It was named after the hill it was built on. The
building itself was to show others the strength of wealth of the
French colonial empire. The fine art in this museum show the
visitors how the gadgets work. There are two auditoriums, one of
them shows arthouse films and the other shows classics. The larger
of the two has 125 seats and it shows 3 films a day. The other
auditorium is the smaller one and it shows only silent films with a
live piano twice in the evening, with only about 30 seats. This
closed in July of 2006 for renovation. It is expected to open back
up sometime in 2008, with two new auditoriums!
Musee de l'Armee was originally built as a hospital and a
home for the disabled soldiers. This museums covers the time
period from antiquity and the 20th century. It holds about 500,000
artifacts. The artifacts include weapons, armor, artillery,
uniforms, emblems and paintings! They used dummies to illustrate the
colonial times. This was the main attraction in the museum. It
was established in 1871 and some of the collections of the weapons
and equipment began in 1910 and in 1917. The last room for the
colonial times was closed just after 1931.
The
Pantheon over looks the Latin Quarter. This museum was originally
built as a chur ch as well. It is now a famous burial place. The
plans for this massive building began in 1757 but the work actually
started in 1764. It was finally finished in the 1800's. It is a
combination of 22 Corinthian columns and a magnificent dome! Instead
of actually being a church, it became a Pantheon for the great dead
people of the republic.
