Vallarta Zoo
The Vallarta Zoo sits at the foot of the
mountains near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, housing over 100 species
of reptiles, mammals and birds that live in simple yet natural
habitats, welcoming between 2500 and 3000 visitors each week
since it opened in 2005. It is a great family destination that
provides visitors with the opportunity to get close to animals,
and a better chance to interact with them. The zoo is planning a
large expansion that will include a cable car, walking paths,
cycling and extreme sports, an area for trying out rappelling, a
great amusement park, aquarium and rental cabins. Some of the
outstanding examples you'll enjoy visiting with include; scarlet
macaws, raccoon, jaguar, black agouti, coyote, Bengal tigers,
coati, ferret, black howler squirrel, puma, tepezcuintle, Sitka
deer, llamas, camels, black bear, leopard and others, with a few
in danger of extinction. This zoo is devoted to bringing humans
closer to animals by offering direct contact, like hand-feeding
zebras, black bears, monkeys, camels, macaw parrots, goats,
donkeys and more. Upon entering the zoo, you can purchase a
lunch kit for the animals, and is recommended since you will be
walking around the zoo, and constantly reaching into the bag for
small tidbits that are sure to bring the animals closer to you
to feed, and your children and family will thank you it
afterwards. Guided tours are also available that gives you more
intimate details about the animals and zoo, as well as teaching
you more about the flora and fauna of the country. One very
interesting and exciting tour is the opportunity to visit the
newest members of the zoo, like the two African lion cubs, a
jaguar and three Bengal tiger cubs.
