National Museum of History
The Chilean National History Museum in Santiago,
Chile was founded in 1911, and houses 19 magnificent galleries house
on two floors that include the following; patio court, from popular
front to popular unity, Chile's first inhabitants, the Great Crisis,
discovery and conquest, Hoping for Change, colonial city, Society in
the early 20th century, church and government, parliamentary,
colonial society, the liberal order, 18th century society,
education, the collapse of the empire, means of transportation, the
idea of liberty, consolidating Republican order and re-establishing
order. One of the more modern devices that have helped visitors from
around the world to enjoy more fully the excellent exhibits housed
here, is the audio-guide that is provided to English speaking
visitors that enable them to learn as much as possible about this
nation's history, culture and peoples. This museum is an excellent
complement to the Pre-Columbian Art Museum which leaves off where
this museum picks up, from the European discovery of the Americas to
the current day; showcasing numerous rooms of exhibits that guides
visitors from one display to another from the discovery to the
colonial period, onto independence and into modern times. It has
been highly recommended for history buffs since it houses such a
wealth of information, especially about this nation that includes
industry, wars, colonial settlement and expansion, conflict between
the Europeans and the American natives, railroads and more. It
contains original portraits that add a large exhibit to the museum,
including one of Ferdinand Magellan, Jose de San Martin and Bernardo
O'Higgins.
