In 2006, a group of private investors bought Advantage Rent-A-car from the Walker family with plans to grow the rental agency's profile among all providers.  Unfortunately, in December of 2008, Advantage was the first of the major rental car companies to declare bankruptcy because of the downturn of business and the economic recession.  But Hertz Global Holdings and Hertz Rental Car were able to buy the little company with over $140 million in yearly revenue for just $33 million.  It was a great acquisition for both parties.  Hertz has planned to keep at least 20 Advantage locations open and will continue to extend the brand.  This acquisition is instrumental in the long term growth of Hertz and gives them a very strong foothold in the leisure car rental market across the United States.
