Maui Art & Cultural Center
when the Maui Arts and Cultural Center opened in
1994, it was the realization of a thirty year dream, that
included a place for the community to come together and
celebrate the outstanding arts and culture that had become
inherent in their fabulous history and heritage, as well as
being one of the most interesting educational resources for
visitors of all ages and a first class venue that would provide
the public with some of the most exciting artists in the world
today. The MACC welcomes over a quarter of a million visitors
each year, through an astounding 1800 events that include taiko
drumming, significant music and theater productions, ballet,
hula, drama, symphony, acrobatics, storytelling, children's art,
popular music and slack key guitar and so much more. It is such
an excellent environment to gather to, the center has become a
meeting place for community events and school happenings.
Choosing to incorporate the old with the new, their logo is a
magnificent petroglyphic image of a human being releasing a
magical bird into the air; which is supposed to represent an act
symbolizing the freedom of expression that is close to the heart
of all creative endeavors. Their programs include many
presentations related to the island and its outstanding history
and heritage, using all the contemporary mediums of dance,
music, culture and more to encourage visitors and the community
to become more familiar and at ease with the fantastic culture
and heritage of the Hawaiian Islands.
