When you are
visiting Aberdeen, South Dakota, be sure to get out
there and see the many great things that the city has to
offer. Here are a few recommendations:
- Dacotah Pairie
Museum
Step back in
time when you visit the Dacotah Prairie Museum in
Aberdeen, South Dakota. The museum has been around for
nearly 70 years. However, during WWII, it closed down in
support of the war effort that America faced. The museum
opened back up in 1970, and today it boasts many
historical exhibits that aid in the understanding of
life on early America and the Native Americans that
called this part of the world their home.
- Mount Rushmore National Monument
For a patriotic day at one of the country's
most exciting landmarks, pay a visit to Mount Rushmore
National Monument. The monument pays tribute to four of
America's great presidents, George Washington, Thomas
Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. Each
sculpture is 60 feet tall and all of the sculptured
heads combined span over 5700 feet. This amazing
undertaking began in 1927, and construction ended in
1941. This is a must see when you are in South Dakota.
- Custer State Park
With over 71,000 acres, Custer State Park is
the second largest state park in the United States and
you can witness all that the Black Hills of South Dakota
has to offer with a trip here. Be sure to bring your
camera because there will be plenty of chances to take
exciting pictures when you get up close and personal
with the wild life that call the Black Hills there home,
such as the mighty bison. The park also offers
breathtaking panoramic views that are absolutely
awe-inspiring.
- 1881 Courthouse Museum
Before South Dakota became a state, it was
named the Dakota Territory and the center of government
for the territory was the 1881 Courthouse. Not only did
the building serve for a place for government, but it
was also used for church congregations and community
activities. The museum hosts exhibits that will show you
the history of this territory from 1874 to the present
day, including the expedition of General George Custer.
- Falls Park
Located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Falls
Park is probably the most well known park in the
Sioux Falls area. The park boasts beautiful
waterfalls that flow through from the Big Sioux
River. There is so much to do when you pay a visit
to Falls Park, like activities such as snowboarding,
tubing, horse riding, and bike riding. However, it
is also a great place to go just to watch the falls
and relax.
