    The Rienzi Mansion in Houston, Texas sits on five acres in the River Oaks neighborhood, encompassed by magnificent gardens and picturesque trees, and filled with splendid furnishings of Roman, Italian and English style that includes many beautiful decorative arts. Harris and Carroll Masterson had been avid collectors of European decorative artworks, and when he passed on, Carroll donated the estate and works to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. the house had been designed by John F. Staub, the same architect that designed Bayou Bend in fact, Harris had purchased the five acre lot from Ima Hogg, because he liked the magnolia tree that was located on it and still sits there more than half a century later. The house was constructed in the Palladian style after the old English country homes, and it would be named Rienzi after Harris' grandfather. The house is a veritable antiques mine full of marvelous and beautiful old antiquities that have been perfectly preserved by the family and then museum. There is Worcester porcelain, English and European paintings, English furniture, portraits and more. Cameras are not allowed, so you will have to visit to view all the gorgeous antiques and artworks.

  • Boniuk Library
    The Boniuk Library contains over 5,000 volumes of books about the Holocaust, Jewish history, WWII, the post-Holocaust period and numerous related topics of interest. The library contains a huge amount of artifacts, photographs, film reels, and documents along with over 250 recorded testimonies from Holocaust survivors, liberators, witnesses and a member of the Hitler Youth. Many permanent, as well as changing exhibitions are located here, with one significant permanent display that is called: "Bearing Witness: A Community remembers," which contains the testimony of Houston area survivors. Just before entering the exhibit, visitors are encouraged to get a better impression of Jewish culture and life in pre-war Europe with authentic films, photographs, artifacts and documents that highlight the Nazi propaganda machine and the way to the "Final Solution". There are many such exhibits like this one, and more that pertain to the permanent collection that showcases the horrid conditions and lifestyles of these haunted people.
