  • Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens
    The Gardens were designed between 1911 and 1915. All together there are10 gardens each with their own theme that sit on 70 acres of land. As well as the gardens, The Manor House also sits on these beautiful 70 acres. The house was built in 1912 and is a fine example of Tudor Revival architecture with 21,000 panes of glass, 23 fireplaces, and hand-carved paneling of oak, sandalwood and black walnut reflect the opulence of the era.  The house has beautiful decor from all over the world.

    In 1991 a few people gathered collections of Akron Marbles and set up an exhibition. They then traveled and displayed the marbles all over the United States. The American Toy Marble Museum was the first toy marble factory in the USA .When they finally found a place to settle and in May of 2002, the museum opened its doors to the public.  In the middle of the museum, the city built a 15-foot, octagon shaped, clay marbles ring for our children’s programming, the Akron District Marbles Tournament and the All-American Marbles Championship.      Active in the milling, a leading Akron industrialist named John Henry Hower, completed his house in 1871. The house was lived in by himself, his wife and son. After Hower and his son had died, Howers wife continued to live there. The house was occupied by the Howers family until 1970 when it was handed over to The University of Akron. In 1973, Hower House was placed on the National Register for Historic Places. The house sits on 2 1/2 acres.
