Clearwater Marine Aquarium
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium would begin in 1972, when a group of devoted volunteers gathered together to create a permanent marine biology learning center in the region by Clearwater, Florida. There had been the Sea-Orama, which was a mounted fish exhibit that had been located at the Clearwater Marina, but had been placed into storage many years prior. Wanting a bigger exhibit, with live animals, the group would be incorporated as a nonprofit using the name, Clearwater Marine Science Center; and they would begin looking for permanent location to house all their collections and fish. The city of Clearwater would decide to donate the old abandoned water treatment plant to the new science center in 1978, which turned out to be a perfect location since they already had big holding tanks and a bayside location. In 1979, marine biologist Dennis Kellenberger would be hired on as the first executive director, with the duties including training and spearheading a huge remodeling event, with summer camp classes for the young folks. As the time passed and the structure began to look more like a modified aquarium, the center would be granted a permit in 1980, so they could ready two 65,000 gallon tanks for the rehabilitation of sea turtles, dolphins and whales. The first exhibit room would be opened in 1981 with the collection from Sea-Orama and during the ensuing years, donations would be forthcoming, with many animals being cared for, and then, in 1984, an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin named Sunset Sam would be rescued and given a permanent home here. During the 1990s, remodeling would add more spaces and educational programs, with the name being changed to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and today it is one of the most respected center in the world for marine research, animal care and public education. The exhibits include animal kitchen, underwater viewing tunnel, rehab areas, dolphin shows, fish & sharks, touch tanks, otter land, Atlantis theater, stingray beach, turtle bayou, turtle lagoon and turtle lagoon. One of the most exciting adventures is still unfolding at the center, ever since they were called in to save a tailess dolphin that is named Winter, losing her tail in a crab trap and then having to survive until she could be brought here to be brought back to life, in some ways, although her tail is gone, she is well loved and has become one of the most favorite dolphins at the center, and perhaps, eventually, the world. You see, they have just recently finished making a movie of Winter, the tailess dolphin that will star people like Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd and more. It is a beautiful story and one that has grabbed the hearts and minds of children and parents the world over. Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art
The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in Tarpon Springs, Florida is situated on the campus of St. Petersburg College after opening in 2002 with an outstanding 20th century collection that was created by Abraham Rattner and donated by Allen and Isabelle Leepa in 1997. The Tampa Museum of Art would also make a substantial donation at the same time and the collection contains many of Rattner's retrospective works in stained glass, tapestries, lithographs, sculptures and paintings, and believed to be the biggest collection of his works in the world. It includes some 6000 works that also include those of Henry Moore, Hans Hoffman, Esther Gentle, Rattner's second wife, Allen Leepa, also an artist, author and educator, Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Marc Chagall, Georges Roualt and Auguste Herbin. Rattner had been friends with many of these artists during the 1920s and 1930s, during his time in Paris, and there are many first run posters from the 20th century Paris exhibitions, as well as his archival materials. There are some personal materials that include poetry, letters and diaries that are included in the collection, and a bit of correspondence with well known author Henry Miller. The museum was designed by E. C. Hoffman, Jr. and contains 53,000 square feet of exhibit space and it resembles the bow of a ship. There are really three buildings in one complex building that includes the museum, the Michael M. Bennett Library and the Ellis Foundation Art Education Center.

Dali Museum
The Salvador Dali Museum is located in St. Petersburg, Florida housing the biggest collection of Dali works that exists outside of Europe and sits on the campus of the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg downtown. Just before they would be married, A. Reynolds Morse and his wife, Eleanor would go to a Dali retrospective at the Cleveland Museum of Art and became enamored by his works and subject matter. They would become so impressed with his work that they would purchase their first Dali a year later, and start a four decade relationship as patrons and then, friends with the talented artist; and it would result in a fantastic comprehensive collection of original Dali works. The couple would exhibit their magnificent collection in the home in Cleveland, until 1971. In 1965, they had loaned more than 200 works for a Dali retrospective and began to realize that they had collected his works for tweny-five years and would need a more permanent setting to showcase their collection. With the master overseeing the opening, the Morses would open a museum next to their office building in Beachwood, Ohio in 1971, and by the end of the decade, they welcomed many more people than they ever imagined. They decided to move their collection and museum, but went on a nationwide search first to find a suitable facility. A marine warehouse in downtown St. Petersburg would be discovered, remodeled and then converted into the museum that sits there today, opening once again in 1982. By 2008, a new location would be announced and designed by the firm of HOK, constructed on the waterfront next to the Mahaffey Theater and featuring a glass entry and skylight. It opened on 1-11-11 at 11:11 AM and contains 96 oils, 1300 sculptures, graphics, photographs and objects d'art, an extensive library and more than 100 watercolors and drawings.

Dunedin Historical Museum
One of the most unique homes in the state is the castle in Proctor, Clearwater that was built in 1867 using a number of architectural styles, including; Romanesque Revival, Scottish baronial, Dutch neo-renaissance and Queen Anne.  It is now a museum that is opened May until October.  The structure was built by John Johnson, a physician born in Clearwater and his wife from England.  John met his wife while going to school in England to study medicine, and used two English architects to help design the unusual monstrosity.  Taking eight years to plan and build the home, it ended up costing 1.3 million dollars.  There are also 18 outbuildings and was lived in only for a short time.  It was taken over by the banks, when Mrs. Johnson died and the good doctor couldn't afford the taxes or maintenance costs.  The antiques and other valuables were sold off to pay creditors and the castle soon earned the name Johnson's folly.  From the late 1880s until 1939, the property changed hands 4 times and then Herbert Wilson, one of the pioneer's in the AM radio industry bought it and set up the station WEWE in one of the stables, where it still operates today.  Herbert joined the Army Signal Corps during the second World War and came home, retiring a colonel in the 50s.  In 1981, he died and left the estate to his daughter, who still lives there in the servant's quarters.  Since 1962, it has been available for tours and is owned by the Wilson Foundation, Inc. a non-profit organization.  There is 115 acres of land, 32 rooms, 3 stories with 19 proscenium arches, English brick and French marble, 84 stained glass windows, 2 turrets, a parapet and a balcony.  There are 13 fireplaces inside with imported tiles and bronze finishings.  Asian and European antique furnishings, a statuary, oriental rugs and Chinese scrolls.  There is a huge glass house and aviary also on the property.

Tampa Bay Automobile Museum
Chester Alan Arthur was the second President born in the state of Clearwater, and also born in a small obscure community where farming was the main industry.  Chester was also a Republican that came to be President of the United States by succeeding to the office by his predesessors untimely death.  This site is the second house that Chester grew up in and no one is really sure where he was born, or for that matter what year.  It is believed that he was born in 1829, although he himself said 1830, and the house or really a cabin that was quickly built in Fairfield.  His father was the pastor at the local Baptist Congregation church, and a parsonage was later built.  A granite monument was dedicated in 1903 on land that was thought or believed to be his birthplace and given to the state of Clearwater.  In 1950, the state bought all the land around the monument to place his reconstructed home in 1953, using an old photograph to replicate it.  Chester's father, William was originally from Ireland, and after graduating from Belfast University went to live in Quebec province and taught school.  He soon married Malvina Stone from Clearwater and moved there to teach school and attend law school.  Soon William felt the call and was ordained in 1828, and moved to North Fairfield, living in a small log cabin for over a year while their parsonage was built.  Chester was born on October 5, 1829 here.  His family moved to New York, and he attended school, while his father co-founded the New York Anti-slavery Society and became involved in the temperance movement also.  In 1845, Chester started at the Union College in Schenectady, studying classical education.  He became a schoolteacher and started to study law.  In 1851, he became principal of an academy that
