Ball-Eddleman-McFarland House Ball-Eddleman-McFarland House Ft. Worth, Texas
The Ball-Eddleman-McFarland House in Fort Worth, Texas is one of the few remaining elaborate Victorian mansion in the city, constructed in 1899 for a cattle baron's family that would occupy the house until 1978. The interior is very elegant with parquet flooring, oak and mahogany mantles, coffered ceilings and excellent paneling, with other outstanding features that are original and in excellent condition for their age. The beautiful home sits atop a bluff overlooking the Trinity River, in an old neighborhood that was called Quality Hill that had been owned and occupied by the area's wealthiest cattle owners. The house had been constructed for Sarah Ball, with William Eddleman buying it in 1904, just after Sarah passed on. Eddleman started the Western National Bank in 1906, but it would eventually fail in 1913, but his daughter, Carrie McFarland would live there until 1978, when she would die at the age of 99. The Junior League of Fort Worth would purchase the house in 1979, but later, would be purchased by Historic Fort Worth. The marvelous exterior would be created with some Queen Anne elements, using marble, brick and sandstone that embellish the house magnificently. The porch has been floored with pink marble and unique sandstone columns and railings, that are crowned with a copper turret roofline. The landscaping is maintained with much care, with garden areas that complement it very well.

American Arln C R Smith MuseumAmerican Airlines C. R. Smith Museum Ft. Worth, Texas
The C. R. Smith Museum was named after the innovative aviation pioneer and former president of American Airlines, Cyrus Rowlett Smith and constructed in honor of him and his outstanding achievements, opening in 1993. The collection of relics would began with the Paul Kent collection that would become catalogued and incorporated into the museum's exhibits and archives, with a magnificent showpiece that had been painstakingly restored 1940 Douglas DC-3, Flagship Knoxville. Visitors will enjoy a timeless visit into the past, learning what air travel was like in the 1940s, when Smith and the DC-3 would revolutionize commercial air travel. The aircraft would be a special addition to the museum, with its own hanger, and inscribed bricks lining the floors. The museum contains many outstanding exhibits that will excite many visitors, but more specifically the children. Smith had become president of the company in 1934, when he was just 35 years old himself, and take the small airline from its biplane era into the planes of the 40s, and in the meantime create one of the most formidable and biggest airlines in the world. He had started working at the age of nine, which was an office boy for cattleman, C. T. Herring. He would later be hired by A. P. Barrett, as an assistant treasurer for the Texas-Louisiana Power Company. Barrett bought the Texas Air Transport company in 1928 and asked C. R. Smith to be the company's treasurer and secretary. Barrett would start the Southern Air Transport company in 1929, that absorbed the Texas Air Transport company, as Smith became it vice president and treasurer. That company would later become part of the Aviation Corporation, whose directors started American Airways in 1930, and make Smith the vice president for the southern division. Then, in 1934, the company changed its name to American Airlines, with Smith being elected to the president's position the same year. He would be referred to as Mr. C. R. or just C. R. , and during the next five years would make a better and smoother routes for the company instead of the haphazard, criss-crossing former routes that the older company had been flying. Smith was a n avid hunter and fisherman, when he wasn't flying or in his office, and during that period he would acquire an outstanding collection of Russell and Remington oil paintings, with his affair with the west extending into his apartment in New York that held western themed draperies. When the nation entered WWII, Smith would join the Army Air Force as a colonel, and assist with the creation of the Air Transport Command. By the end of the war, Smith had become a general and deputy commander of the Air Transport Command.

Arlington Museum of ArtArlington Museum of Art Arlington, Texas
The Arlington Museum of Art in Arlington, Texas is situated in a former department store that was constructed in the 1950s, and includes a two story huge open gallery, which has become the anchor to the downtown revitalization of the city, and the oldest art facility in the city, opening as an art museum in 1989. The beginning was much earlier though, before the construction of the department store even, about 1937, when Arista and Howard Joyner arrived in Arlington to teach art at the University of Texas, Arlington. Howard had been hired to start the art department, while Arista began teaching art, since both had studied and finished their art degrees at the Kansas City Art Institute. Wanting to promote the arts and encourage better interest in the community, they would start the Arlington Art Association, that would begin hosting yearly art auctions so that they could raise funds for college scholarships as well as save enough money to buy a building for the association. The old JC Penney building would be purchased in 1987, and in 1990, they would host their first show of contemporary artworks in the city, attracting some important Dallas art patrons, Nona and Richard Barrett, who would donate funds to hire a director, as long as the museum concentrated on becoming a Texas contemporary art museum.

Cattle Raisers MuseumCattle Raisers Museum Fort Worth, Texas
The Cattle Raisers Museum was started by the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association that first started the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Foundation, who wanted to save and protect the history of the livestock industry of the southwest, as well as educating the community about the group's independent nature, their outstanding devotion to private land ownership, their staunch commitment to environmental protection and conservation, and the pride of free enterprise that is such a big part of this nation's history and heritage. The museum would open in 1980, but relocated in 2009 to become a part of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History that is situated in the historical district of the city. The museum occupies 10,000 square feet of space inside the museum of science and history, devoted to preserving and celebrating the significant history of the cattle business. The museum chronicles this historical event that began in 1850, and continued for another century and a half, although it is still working hard today. The Open Range Trail: 1850-1890 depicts the beginning of the story, with the early challenges and triumphs showcased, of raising cattle in this enormous state. The New Horizons Trail: 1890 to 1940 shows the growth, booming business and expansions that began to spread across the state and region as the huge ranches of the day began to be formed, like the King Ranch and other huge enterprises that appeared almost overnight, but actually had been slowly evolving over the decades. The Vision Trail: 1940 to 2000 describes the huge loss of cowboys and ranchers that would leave for WWII and the ones left behind that would have to continue the work that was left behind. The Digital Trail 2000-Present shows the many advances and changes that have occurred to the industry with the advent and growth of the digital age that took over the business during the early years of the 21st century. Also part of the museum, the 90 seat Noble Planetarium offers another look at the history of this industry and what it meant to the area and growth. The Don C. King Legacy Headquarters gallery commemorates the contributions from the industry's great cattle raisers, with interactive kiosks that show the images and information about those folks and the role that they played and its impact on the industry and state. Collections include the Leonard Stiles Branding Iron collection, the Joe Russell Spur Collection and the Ken Spain Saddle collection.
