Cerro Patapo Ruins Cerro Patapo Ruins Chiclayo, Peru
The Cerro Patapo ruins or Northern Wari ruins that are located in the city of Chiclayo, Peru, had been an entire prehistoric city close to where the city now is situated, commonly known as the remains of the Wari culture, that had been stated in 2008 by lead archeologist, Cesar Soriano, that showcase the first evidence of the Wari culture and its influence that has been discovered in Northern Peru and a significant site. These ruins are about 14 miles from the city, spread across three miles of land. The Wari pre-Columbian civilization had been mostly based in southern Peru, during the period between the 7th and 12th centuries, well known for its excellent roads and a territory that was almost as large as the eventual Inca Empire. Many scholars have referenced the complex, with its outstanding architecture, road building and monuments that give evidence that the empire had existed. Chiclayo, had been part of this Wari empire, that included much of the Andes Mountains, that were located in south-central Peru, in between the 7th century and the 12th century, and is quite well preserved, because of the dry desert climate and the excellent pottery shards, along with human sacrifice, that could be discerned because the large amount of bones found at the base of a cliff, with the remains of a young woman still visible since it had been so well preserved. Sometime before the 2008 discovery, archaeologists had uncovered the Huaca Pucllana ruins near Lima, about 500 miles south of Chiclayo, and found a mummy that they believe is Wari. This discovery is considered to be a more typical location of the region that had been known to be occupied when the Wari culture thrived. The archaeologists would also find two geoglyphs inside what they believed to be the courthouse of the ancient city, with one an ocean wave and the other, that of a pelican type of mythical bird. Their team would uncover the complete court area, that included the cells and main courtroom where judges would sit on thrown set there for them to sit on while they sentenced offenders. The people sentenced to death would be lead to an area that had a very steep drop from a cliff, where the complex is located, with many bones discovered at its base.

Museum of Valley of the Pyramids of TucumeMuseum of Valley of the Pyramids of Tucume Chiclayo, Peru
The Tucume Pyramids lie in a plain around the La Raya Mountains, a bit south of the La Leche River, near Chiclayo, Peru, named puratorio or purgatory in English, by the local people that include dozens of pyramids, mounds and enclosures that can be seen on the plain. Altogether, there are 26 major pyramids and platforms that sit on 540 acres of historical land. The site had been a main regional center, like the capital of the continued occupations of the region by the Lambayeque/Sican cultures that had lived here from 1000 to 1350 AD. The local shaman healers invoke the power of Tucume and La Raya Mountain in their rituals, causing the local community to fear the sites. These plains are part of the Lambaeque Valley, which is the biggest valley of the north coast of Peru, with many man-made and natural waterways, along with many pyramids. Tucume is located on the southern plains of the valley, although, now, with the Taymi irrigation canal, that is more than 43 miles long, it has become encompassed by fertile agricultural lands, which might have been completed about the same time as the foundation of Tucume, which would become a significant center for trade and ceremonies all during its four hundred year history. The modern day Tucume, that is close to the site and has its own prehistoric village pyramid, called Huaca del Pueblo that is some 17 miles south of the city of Chiclayo. The biggest and most significant pyramids located in the huge center, lie north and northeast of the La Raya Mountain and include; Huaca I, Huaca Larga and a u shaped temple of the Sacred Stone. Excavations in other areas have yielded many ideas about the function of the site, about its city and the lives of the community. The city would be conquered by the Chimu in 1350, and then later by the Incas, in 1470, that has been discerned in the pottery, burials, ceramics and dedicatory offerings, like the exciting one in Huaca Largo where archaeologists have uncovered the elaborate burial tomb of a prominent Inca general, that may have been one of the governors of Tucume. A number of archaeologists consider the fire that burned the central part of Huaca Larga might coincide with the start of the colonial period and the eventual abandonment of the village. Pyramid I, located in Huaca I is almost 100 feet high, behind the museum, and west of the Pyramid of the Stakes, with a long narrow access ramp that take numerous right hand turns as it winds up to the peak, encompassed by high walls to the south.

Royal Tombs of Sipan MuseumRoyal Tombs of Sipan Museum Chiclayo, Peru
The Royal tombs museum of Sipan contains the majority of significant relics that Dr. Walter Alva discovered in 1987, who would also stay to help found the museum and support its construction, that opened in 2002, located in the town of Lambayeque, Peru. The museum was designed to replicate the ancient Moche tombs, but without the huge golden figures on its sides, and the main attraction here is the Lord of Sipan and his entourage, that would go with him into the afterworld. The warriors that would be buried with him had had their feet amputated, as if they would try to escape their fate, with the women dressed in ceremonial clothing, and llamas, dogs and over 80 huacos or works of pottery would be buried there as well. The tombs include the main mummy of an rich man discovered in Sipan, that had been discovered by Peruvian archaeologists and Walter Alva in 1987, that had been part of a Moche culture site in Peru. Many archaeologists believe that it is the most important archaeological finds in the last three decades, in the northern part of Peru, with an intact tomb and never touched by thieves. It was discovered in a burial mound, that would have been used as a mausoleum back in that period, by created by the Moche culture, whose people had ruled the northern coast of Peru from the year 1 to 700 AD. It is located about twenty miles from Chiclayo, Peru, that had been part of the Mochican culture, and included the mummified body of a warrior and ruler that suggests he was about 5 and a half feet tall, dying about three months after he had started to govern the village and province. This ruler had a treasure trove of gold, silver, copper, gold and semi-precious stones, that indicate he had been a high level ruler, with over 400 jewels discovered in his tomb with him. He was wearing a precious necklace with beads of gold and silver in the shape of peanuts or mani that represented the earth or tierra, with the peanuts also symbolizing that men had come from the land and that when they passed on, they would return to the earth; and so the Moches would harvest peanuts for food. This fabulous necklace had 10 kernels to the right, that are made from gold and seem to signify the sun god and masculinity, with the kernels on the left side being made from silver that represented the moon god and feminity. He was buried with eight people, that archaeologists guess might have been his wife, and two other women that could have been his concubines, a watchman, child banner holder and military commander, with a dog found among the animals. Two other tombs would be uncovered beneath his, that were speculated to be a priest and the old Lord of Sipan, and after taking DNA tests, it was discovered that the priest had been a contemporary of the lord. The relics found in his tomb included a metal crown adorned with an owl that had its wings extended, a cup or bowl for sacrifices and other items used in the worship services.
