The Setubal Museum is located in the former Convent of Jesus, housing magnificent collections of archeology, numismatics, history and art, with many beautiful 16th century works that also include tiles, jewelry and other decorative arts, along with contemporary artworks. A hospital that had been located in the convent would close in 1959, and make room for the museum, that opened in 1961, with a fabulous collection of outstanding artworks. One of its most famous and significant works is the altarpiece painting of the Church of Jesus, that had been created in the last half of the 16th century, along with other marvelous paintings from the 15th, 16th and 187th centuries, as well as pieces of the gold cross. The library that is housed there contains a magnificent library that in the past had integrated three ancient libraries that had been donated, with quite a bit of documentation included. The museum is currently involved in an excavation in Largo Jose Afonso, hoping to discover the remains of a 17th century fortress that lies beneath many centuries of structures and debris. The museum is also involved in workshops, lectures, conferences, guided tours of the exhibitions, urban heritage, teaching programs and other types of activities that involve people from all ages and backgrounds. It strives to showcase the fabulous history of the city through its art and archaeological discoveries, and is free to all visitors.

The Michel Giacometti museum, in Setubal, Portugal, is devoted to the industrial history of the city and the many urban trades that pertained to the services and old lithographs and canneries still found here, as well as an excellent collection of agricultural equipment and traditional crafts. This fort is located in the foothills of the south slope of Mt. Santa Maria, around Setubal, Portugal that had been constructed in the 18th century to protect its coastline from any invaders or other people coming in to conquer the nation. A small chapel would be constructed originally in the 13th century, when a merchant named Hildebrand, from the British Isles, would be shipwrecked there and build the small church to Our Lady in thanksgiving for her saving him from drowning. During the first half of the 16th century, the church would be donated to the Spanish Franciscan friar Martin de Santa Maria, who had been living there for quite a while as a hermit. The construction work would continue on until the last half of the 17th century, when the Fourth Duke of Aveiro would promote the church to a chapel dedicated to the Good Jesus. During the 19th century, it would be abandoned by the monks and acquired by the Dukes of Pamela, and at the end of the 20th century, the Orient Foundation would take it over and get it classified as a cultural space. From 1932, the fort would be used as a hostel by the family of Sebastiao da Gama that would last until 1976. In 1978, it would become part of the Natural Park of Arrabida and be classified as a cultural heritage building, and since that time, there has been numerous restoration works, that would adapt the structure to handle its operation as the Oceanographic Museum that opened in 1991. It continues to house a center for marine biology, as well as a small gift shop that sells coffee and other goods to the visitors that come here. One of the most significant features is a sculpture of Our Lady, carved in limestone and created in the 1 7th century.

The Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Mary Major is a large Roman Catholic parish church situated in Lisbon, Portugal, that is the oldest church in the city and the see of the Archdiocese of Lisbon, constructed in 1147, and modified numerous times throughout its history, as well as surviving a few earthquakes; so that is now is a mix of architectural styles. The city has been a seat of the bishopric from the 4th century, although it would be conquered and ruled by the Visigoths, and then the Moors, who would have control of it from the 8th century to the 12th, when it would be reconquered by an army of Portuguese soldiers that would be led by King Afonso Henriques and other North European crusaders that were leaving the region to take part in the Second Crusade. Gilbert of Hastings would become the bishop at that time and a new cathedral constructed on the site of the main mosque of Lisbon. It would be built in the late Romanesque style in 1147, up to the years of the 13th century, with magnificent artifacts, like those of St. Vincent of Sargossa, the patron Saint of Lisbon, and would be carried here from the cathedral from South Portugal. During the late 13th century, King Dinis of Portugal would construct a gothic cloister and then when Afonso Iv of Portugal became king, he would finish the chapel in the gothic style for he and his family. The cathedral is a Latin Cross with three aisles, transept and main chapel encompassed by an ambulatory that flanked the entry and crenellations over the walls. The main facade resembles a fort, but is quite menacing, like the many other Portuguese cathedrals of the period, with portals that contain marvelous sculptured capitals with Romanesque motifs. The nave is beneath a barrel vaulted ceiling, with an upper arched gallery, with lights coming in through the rose windows of the western facade and transept, with narrow windows on the nave, by its portals and many other outstanding designs that make the church quite popular.
