Las Cruces Spaceport AmericaLas Cruces is the home to New Mexico State University. It is the only land grant university in New Mexico. Declared open on 18th October of 2011, Spaceport America is the result of nearly two decades of efforts to increase the commercial accessibility of spaceflight in the area. It is the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport, designed with the needs of the commercial space tourism in mind. The visitors will be able to see the terminal hangar, named the Virgin Galactic Gateway to Space and runway of the facility. It is believed that if everything goes as planned then Virgin Galactic will be the first company to provide sub-orbital flights to the general public. 8 suborbital missions have been successfully launched from the spaceport as of October 2009. The commercial liftoff is expected in the next five years.
