Lambert Castle in Paterson Paterson is the third largest city in New Jersey and one of the largest cities in the New York City metropolitan area. It is known as the "Silk City" for its major role in silk production in the mid 19th century. Lambert Castle, located at the Valley Road is one of the popular tourist attractions in the city. It is a well-known landmark in Northern New Jersey, sitting on Garret Mountain overlooking the City of Paterson. This is a historically preserved home of the Lambert family, the prominent family that owned the silk mills in city in early era. It features Lambert’s extensive collection of American and European paintings and sculptures, historical artifacts, Civil War presentation and educational lecture presentation. The castle also includes a library. The Lambert's Castle Historical society holds lectures and reenactments periodically. The building is designed in an English castle style. Built in 1892, the castle was named “Belle Vista” by Catholina Lambert, an English immigrant who made his fortune in the silk industry. Many prominent individuals of that era including President McKinley visited the castle, then the Lambert family residence. There is a 75-foot observation tower stand above the Lambert tower and at the Peak of Garret Mountain. The tower is part of the Garret Mountain Reservation and was recently renovated to its original condition. You can see the stunning view of the New York City skyline from the top of the tower. While you are there, you can go to Garret Mountain Reservation, a 568-acre park located in southern Passaic County. It features grass fields, several miles of trails, basketball courts, and picnic areas.

Founded in 1925, the goal of the museum is to preserve and display the industrial history of Paterson. The most notable museum exhibits include the Fenian Ram, the submarine designed by John Philip Holland for use by the Fenian Brotherhood. It also features a large collection of early Colt firearms and the facade of a playhouse, industrial equipment from the former silk-weaving factories and an archive of Holland's works. It has two 18 holes golf courses: Red Course and Blue Course. Founded in 1892, it is one of the oldest golf courses in the state. The golf courses are situated in Preakness Valley Park. These public golf courses are owned and operated by the Passaic County. The 18-hole "Red" course features 6,418 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 69. The 18-hole "Blue" course features 6,457 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 69. The courses offer nice parkland settings with medium-level difficulty of holes and fair prices.
