  • Johnson Space Center   Johnson Space Center in Houston
    Is always at the top of the must see list when you are visiting Houston, Texas.  The Space Center is named after Lyndon B. Johnson and is home of the NASA astronaut corps and is located in Southeast Houston.  The Johnson Space Center covers more than 1,620 acres and consists of one hundred facilities.  Visitors can experience a variety of zero gravity simulations such as the Living in Space exhibit or encounter a virtual rocket launch complete with exhaust at the Blast Off Theater. The Space Center Theater is a great place to learn about history in space, visitors of all ages will enjoy watching on the larger than life movie screen.  Here you will see the commitment, excitement and the risks taken by the people who travel through space.  Also you can see the evolution of the equipment along with the training of the men and women who have dreamed of being astronauts.  Just about 300 people have traveled into space since the first Mercury rocket took off in May 1961, with astronaut Alan Shepard Jr.  The first flight only lasted fifteen minutes.. Everyone will be fascinated with what it takes to be an astronaut in fact, many have dreamed, planned and prepared for years to become an astronaut..  Visitors can see through the eyes of an astronaut with a film shown on a five-story tall screen.  This fascinating film goes behind the scenes and allows visitors to experience weightlessness, view the earth from space or enjoy the friendships & relationships of fellow astronauts and crew members.  Other highlights of the Johnson Space Center include; The Feel of Space-this simulates what life would be like for astronauts aboard the space station.  Visitors will be treated to a Mission Briefing Officer who gives a live performance on how the astronauts live while in space.  This presentation uses humor to show how the smallest of tasks such as showering and eating are complicated by microgravity.  Next, the Astronaut Gallery- featuring the world's best collection of spacesuits worn by famous Astronauts such as John Young's ejections suit, Judy Resnik's T-38 flight suit along with many other spacesuits on display.  The walls of the Astronaut Gallery have portraits and crew photos of every United States Astronaut who has ever flown in space.  Little visitors will enjoy The Kids Space Place- This special exhibit was created for children of all ages who want to experience the same things the astronauts do in space.  Inside Kids Space Place there are several interactive exhibits and themed areas that make exploring the different aspects of space loads of fun and excitement....  The NASA Tram Tour- takes visitors on a behind the scenes journey through the Johnson Space Center.  You will also visit the Historic Mission Control Center and the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility.  Before returning to the Space Center you can visit the new Saturn V Complex at Rocket Park.  You may even have the opportunity to see astronauts training for upcoming missions.
