Dallas,
Texas, home to the fastest growing population in the United States
today. Although it has no way to the sea, it has managed to grow into an
incredible city with most of the necessary businesses needed to survive
and thrive in the 21st century. The Dallas-Fort Worth International
Airport is one of the biggest and most active airports in the world.
Coupled with the energy, computer technology, telecommunications,
commerce and banking industries that make their home there. Like many
great cities of the world, Dallas was started along a river, the
Trinity, and now has grown up around it. White Rock Lake was made in the
early 20th century to supply water to the growing city, and it is fed by
the White Rock Creek. The area surrounding the lake and subsequent park
have become an integral part of the city's attractiveness. Dallas is
truly a diverse city with the various ethnic groups living and working
there, as well as the sports teams, architecture, politics, media,
cuisine, arts, culture, the thriving neighborhoods, healthcare,
education and religion. There is no end to the attractions here and
there are a plethora of things to do and place to go. It is no wonder
that this city is continuing to growl, in popularity and adaptive ness.
It also doesn't hurt that it has the land available to support that
growth. A beautiful city in the heart of Texas, a big state in the west
and south of these United States.

With the
Dallas Cowboys leading the way, the metro area is home to some of the
best teams in the sports business. The Cowboys are the valuable team in
the world presently and the other sports teams include; Texas Rangers,
Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars, Dallas Desperados and FC Dallas. There
are many other teams playing various sports in the area as well as
NASCAR and horse racing. With over 400 area parks sitting on 21,000
acres, there are many places to relax and enjoy the views. Fair Park,
site of the Texas Centennial Exposition in 1936, is a wonderful park to
visit and relax. The Dallas Zoo opened in 1888, the first in the state
and the biggest is another fantastic venue to spend some time; on its 95
acres. Set within the city's massive park system are 17 lakes totaling
4400 acres of great avenues of pure pleasure and enjoyment. Around the
city runs over 60 miles of trails for biking, hiking, walking, jogging,
skating or just sitting to watch the hordes go by. There are also 47
recreation centers, 477 athletic fields, 258 picnic areas, 60 swimming
pools, 112 volleyball courts, 276 sports fields, 258 tennis courts, 173
basketball courts, 232 playgrounds, 126 play slabs, 6 18 golf courses
and 2 driving ranges. Part of the Trinity River Project, Great Trinity
Forest, is the biggest hardwood forest in the country, with 6000 acres
and a part of the biggest urban park in America. Texans do like big. Go
see for yourself and imagine the possibilities..

The
cuisine of Dallas is all its own, with barbecue topping the most favored
list, real Mexican and Tex-Mex foods. The frozen margarita is tops here
and very original, with the restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton, Fearing's
being named the best hotel restaurant in the country this year. The Ritz
was also named the best hotel of the year. Of course, the city is home
to some of the best steakhouses in the country and it could be from the
great beef cattle roaming the ranges in this great state. The art scene
is awesome considering the amount of wealth that lives here, it
shouldn't surprise anyone. The Dallas Museum of Art is wonderful, as is
the symphony, Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas Children's Museum and the
Trammell and Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art. With lenient
graffiti laws, the local talent has the opportunity to go ballistic and
Deep Ellum is the place to be if you are an artist. Hundreds live in the
lofts and studios found throughout this area and the hottest clubs in
the south are located here. The murals that beautify the walls of
buildings, tunnels, sidewalks and streets will thrill the visitor to no
end and you can spend hours just wandering around in the world of
graffiti.
With
skyscrapers topping the 700 feet mark, architecture from the 1800s and
onward, modernist and postmodernist, gothic revival, neoclassical and
Victorian; this city can boast a marvelous skyline, impressive even to
the novice, and most especially to the first time visitor. The Trinity
River Project is involved in erecting some of the most spectacular
bridges in this country, with designs by Santiago Calatrava, considered
to be one of the best in the world. The city itself is an incredible
mixture of commercialism and quaintness. Downtown is central to the
city's area, with thick areas of retail, nightlife and restaurants;
included are; the Reunion District, Convention Center, West End
Historic, Farmer's Market, Arts and Main Street. North of this area is
the West Village, Cityplace, Uptown, Turtle Creek, Oak Lawn and Victory
Park. In the east is Deep Ellum, the trendy arts center, Swiss Avenue
with its eclectic architecture, Lakewood, Bryan Place and Vickery Place;
of historical significance. The wealthiest live in Preston Hollow, Lake
Highland is middle-class neighborhoods, north Oak Cliff is Hispanic and
south Oak Cliff is African-American.
