Arriving at the Presidio of San Antonio de Bexar in the province of Texas was 56 people from the Canary Islands. Typically called Canary Islanders,  the King of Spain by a royal decree declared the first civil government in Texas.  Upon the arrival of these Islanders, the king bestowed upon each titles of nobility. Only 189 Mexican & settler defenders would lose their lives in the final assault of the garrison. "Remember the Alamo" shouted the defenders before they and Davy Crockett were executed after the war ended.
